Typical ranges from public sources, not quotes. Where these numbers come from

Shops that will open an older Tesla battery pack or rebuild a large drive unit are rare. Owners from all over the country send their cars to our Midwest shop.

Most of our customers aren't local. They own older Model S and Model X cars that a dealer wanted to replace a pack or drive unit on, and they ship them here to be repaired instead. Cars come from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Texas, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Arizona, California, the Pacific Northwest, and the Northeast. We take cars from anywhere in the continental US.
For a battery or drive unit problem on an older Model S or X, usually yes. Public pricing puts a 2012–2020 Model S pack at $14,000 to $20,000 at Tesla, while a module-level repair at an independent shop runs about $1,800 to $6,000. Transport is a cost to weigh against that gap, and we'll help you think it through before you book anything. See the price sources.
If your car is still under Tesla's battery and drive unit warranty, take it to Tesla first.
Tell us your model, year, battery size, where the car is, and what the screen or the dealer is telling you. A photo of the alert or a copy of the Tesla estimate helps us give you a faster, more accurate answer.
We reply by text or email, usually within one business day. No obligation.
Newer car? Check your Tesla battery and drive unit warranty first. Warranty work should go to Tesla.
